Melariche isn’t just a company that wants you to feel beautiful on the outside. We want you to feel beautiful on the inside too! And what could be more fulfilling than knowing you’re making a difference, every time you buy something? Our Beauty for Good programme ensures that 1% of every single purchase goes directly to a good cause. Our founder has a real passion for making a difference in the world, particularly when it comes to female empowerment. Our chosen charity is the Southall Black Sisters, who support vulnerable women through their toughest times. Read on to find out more about why Beauty for Good is so important to us (and our founder), and where that 1% from every purchase goes.
The Importance of Giving Back
Jackie Taiwo, the founder of Melariche, learnt from an early age the importance of giving back. While growing up in New York, her single mother of six never hesitated to give something back to the community. In fact, it’s her sheer determination and selflessness that led Jackie on her own journey of ambition. Despite having a full-time job and six children to care for, Jackie’s mother was always first in line to help others in need. Including driving the local school bus, in the community HeadStart programme. It doesn’t matter how busy you are, how much you have going on in your own life, or what troubles you may face, it's crucial that we help others in need.
Southall Black Sisters
This leads us onto a cause that Melariche is proud to support. The Southall Black Sisters is a group of black and minority women, who do everything in their power to fight for women’s rights. They may be based in the UK, but their reach extends across the globe. Established in 1979, SBS aims to help women live without the fear of violence and to fight for equality. Their tireless work over the last three decades has included picketing, demonstrations and campaigning, along with hands-on support for women in need. Some of the campaigns and programmes they run now include:
- Campaign against Narendra Modi and Hindutva politics
- Demanding an inquiry into the sad case of Nosheen Azam
- Abolish no recourse to public funds campaign
- The Forced Marriage campaign
Along with the campaigning and demonstrations, Southall Black Sisters also run an advice centre in West London and a helpline. Their hardworking volunteers can provide support, advice, advocacy, casework and counselling, to name just a few services. As you can tell, SBS truly works hard to empower women and ensure that nobody feels threatened by violence.
We hope that the Southall Black Sisters makes you feel as passionate as us! Our Beauty for Good campaign will ensure that our passion goes further than words. With 1% of every sale being donated to the SBS, we want to help the fight for women’s equality in the UK and across the globe. So every time you buy something from Melariche, just know that you’re playing a part in helping that happen. Making you feel beautiful, both inside and out.
